Padma Lakshmi is the host and judge of the popular TV show Top Chef and people would completely understand for sure if she were a “generously proportioned” woman but she looks exactly the opposite! The 38 year old actress and cookbook author doesn’t let her job control her body size – well not entirely at least.

Padma Lakshmi eats a pretty decent amount of very rich food in her diet plan, for seven weeks straight. And yet she still looks like the supermodel that she was before. One of her weight loss tips? “Don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time!”
What does it mean? This means that she tries to combat eating thousands of extra calories per day judging food on the show by following a healthy weight loss plan. While filming the reality TV show however, the former model usually puts on 10 to 15 pounds every season, and keeps two dress sizes on set to accommodate her expanding waistline.
“I try to cut myself a break – I know I’m going to gain weight,” Lakshmi told the New York Times. “In my job, I eat the most when I’m working the most.” And boy does she eat! Lakshmi has to taste 16 or 17 bites of every dish that’s prepared for each episode, every day for 5 weeks. To add insult to injury, because the show is a competition, the contestants often add extra fattening ingredients to make their dishes taste the best.
When she’s not doing the show, her weight loss diet plan: the detox diet plan which involves cutting out red meat, alcohol and cheese. Padma Lakshmi also cuts out as much sugar and fat as possible in her weight loss diet plan and she tries to only eat carbohydrates and lean protein. Her healthy weight loss diet plan involves eating fruits and veggies as well as drinking enough water.
“Water is a great weight loss help! It fills you up. I mean, it’s the simplest thing you can ever think of, but I drink at least one and a half to two liters a day. I always just keep a big bottle by me and that way I can monitor how much I drink, even at the design studio. We have a big pitcher of water that’s always filled and we put things in it like dried Jasmine flowers or orange blossom water just to make it feel a little special. I also put lemon slices or rosemary twigs, or very thinly sliced cucumbers just to give it a little essence, a little aroma.”
Padma Lakshmi also says cooking in her own kitchen can not only be a healthy weight loss plan but it can actually be your best weight loss plan! It is a healthy way to control her caloric intake. In addition, this foodie loves the physicality of cooking, noting that “[instead] of watching TV, waiting for your food to come, you’re actually moving [when you cook]. My aunt had the best arms in the world, and she never stepped inside a gym.”
Padma Lakshmi Shares Her Secrets on How to Lose Weight: Her Fitness Training Exercise Routine
Aside from following a detox diet plan, part of Padma’s healthy weight loss program is naturally incorporating a strict fitness exercise program as well.
The 5-foot-9 beauty confesses to trying to squeeze in a fitness training exercise whenever she has free time during filming. In fact, she also carries a jump rope in her travel bags as part of her weight loss help.
But when she’s not doing the show, Padma Lakshmi goes back into her daily 90-minute fitness exercise program by doing cardio exercises.
The former supermodel turned author and TV show host says she does her fitness training exercise of boxing three times per week. Aside from this, she also incorporates weight lifting on her fitness training. For her lower body exercise, she does cardio exercise by either: climbing the stairs – running up and down it, getting on the treadmill exercise equipment or going roller skating. For her upper body fitness training, she does boxing as an exercise.
Padma says she enjoys boxing as a fitness training exercise for weight loss because of its combined emphasis on both endurance and cardio aerobics. So what happens on really busy days for Padma Lakshmi? How doe she find time to exercise so she can lose weight? “I woke up at 6AM, I nursed, then I ran up and down 70 flights of stairs. Then I had breakfast, then I went to the gym and lifted weights for an hour. Then I walked home.”
