Anne Hathaway’s Diet
Anne says that she got too thin for her role in “The Devil Wears Prada.” “”I was on a meal-delivery service, eating the tiniest portions ever.” “I look at pictures of myself at that time and I’m so tiny, I’m not even there. And on screen I looked kind of normal.” “That’s what freaks me out the most. I’d look at myself in the mirror naked, and I knew I didn’t look good.” “I have a lot of food sensitivities. I know that sounds like code for ‘I’m anorexic,’ but I’m lactose intolerant; I have a small, but not serious, sugar intolerance; I can’t have spicy foods; I can’t eat fried foods. Oh, and processed flour. It sounds like a death sentence, but you just learn to love different foods.
“The foods I eat now make me feel good. And I can eat a lot of things: certain cheeses-sheep and goat cheese- and beautiful farmers’ market vegetables, fantastic whole-wheat bread. I eat Greek yogurt in the morning. I have this whole ritual. I put in blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and goji berries, then I add chopped almonds, a handful of granola and honey on top. I love almond butter and almond milk. Sometimes, I’ll fry an egg and have it on top of spelt toast. I love fish. I was a vegetarian for 10 years, but I’m not anymore. When I do eat meat, which is not a lot, I try to make sure it’s organic and range-free.”
“I didn’t want to lose any weight for ‘Get Smart’.”
Anne Hathaway’s Exercise
“I wanted Agent 99 to have a womanly body with curves and muscles, so I strength trained three times a week, and I ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes or 3 miles, whichever came first. I didn’t lose any weight, but in a month and a half, I lost one and a half inches off my thighs. My stomach got tighter. My arms, a problem area for me, got more definition. And I still have my hips and boobs, which I’m really excited about. I love being strong! I love being able to lift heavy boxes. I love being able to do 20 push-ups. I love being able to hear the whack when I punch a bag.”
