Just in time for the summer, Fitness Magazine is sharing with us Anne Hathaway’s butt exercises:
Joe Dowdell, founder and co-owner of Peak Performance Strength & Conditioning, and Anne Hathaway’s trainer, developed this workout to tone her lower body. Before she could kick butt as Agent 99 in Get Smart, Hathaway did this exercise to whip her butt into shape. You too can get a better butt by doing this workout.
Work Your Lower Body
The exercise: Rotational step-up
A. Stand with right side next to a step or stairs, placing right foot on step. Turn right foot 90 degrees, toes pointing to the right.
B. Straighten right leg to stand up, turning hips so body now faces step. Place left foot on step. Return to starting position by stepping back with left foot. Do 12 to 15 reps on right leg; switch sides.
Beat the Clock, Build Endurance
Spend less time (about 20 to 30 seconds) resting between sets at the beginning of your workout when your muscles aren’t exhausted, and more time (40 to 60 seconds) as they become fatigued. This method, known as density training, can cut the time you spend working out by as much as 15 to 20 percent. It also forces your muscles to work harder while improving your endurance at the same time.

In addition, personal trainer David Kirsch recommended the unusual exercise to help her achieve a svelte look. Explaining the benefits of the ‘platypus walk’, David told America’s Glamour magazine: “It lifts the butt up a good inch higher, working the inner thighs. She really wanted to sweat. It de-stressed her.” This is an awfully silly-looking exercise but it will get your heart pumping and your gluts and quads burning.
Sit into a squatting position with your hands behind your head, your knees aligned with your toes and your butt sticking back as far as you can go. Keep your core tight and walk forward while pushing off with each heel. If you perform this correctly you’ll look like a platypus – and your glutes and thighs will be on fire.
Not everyone can do the platypus. If you have the strength and coordination to do the move, it’s a great quad and glute burner. Make sure to sit back on your heels. Do not step too far forward or you’ll stress your trailing knee.
Meanwhile, health-conscious Anne recently revealed her favourite foods. She said: “If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life I would choose sushi, because you can prepare it in several different ways and it is so healthy. I also love broccoli with brown rice.”
